Maine PUC Receives Comments Regarding the Hywind Maine Offshore Wind Project

Recently, Ocean Renewable Power Company (“ORPC”) activated its tidal water turbine in Cobscook Bay, becoming the first tidal energy developer to successfully link a commercial tidal water turbine to the power grid in North America.  The ORPC project is one of two proposals for long-term contracts to supply energy from deepwater offshore wind energy or tidal energy projects that the Maine Public Utilities Commission (“MPUC”) solicited under the 2009 Act to Implement the Recommendations of the Governor’s Ocean Energy Task Force (the “Ocean Energy Act”).
