Nora Healy Honored With New Lawyer Award at Maine Bar Meeting

Nora Healy, of Verrill Dana’s Energy Practice Group, was awarded the Maine Bar Foundation’s New Lawyer Award at the Maine Bar Fellows breakfast on January 27.

The accolade, also called the “Arnie” in recognition of Arnold Macdonald’s support for legal services, is awarded to an outstanding lawyer within her first ten years of service who has demonstrated integrity and high personal and professional ethical ideals of increasing access to justice; made outstanding and recognized contributions to the legal profession and to the public good through pro bono service or other contributions; and demonstrated a strong commitment to the objectives and purposes of the Maine Bar Foundation.

During the past several years, Nora has engaged in significant pro bono work.  She represented a prison inmate seeking visitation with his children, assisted victims of domestic violence seeking protection from abuse orders, helped shellfish harvesters form a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection of Maine’s coastal waters and shellfish resources, and represented a coalition of environmental organizations in the successful removal of the Fort Halifax dam.  Nora also serves on the boards of the Cleaves Law Library, Wolfe’s Neck Farm, and the Community Television Network, and is a member of the Freeport Shellfish Commission.
